Children Learn to Get Safe for Summer at Aberdare Pool
August 4, 2008
Youngsters had an opportunity to learn personal survival and water safety awareness in special sessions held at two Rhondda Cynon Taf swimming pools.
The Safe 4 Summer events at Rhondda Fach Sports Centre’s pool and Aberdare Pool covered water safety, rescue skills for open water and resuscitation, and children also had the chance to learn a new skill - snorkelling. Taught by Rhondda Cynon Taf Leisure staff, the activities were designed to increase children’s awareness of water safety.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s swimming development officer, Jean Davies, said: “Safe 4 Summer is an Amateur Swimming Association initiative run by Rhondda Cynon Taf as part of the free swimming initiative held throughout the summer. More Safe 4 Summer sessions will be held at Rhondda Fach, subject to demand. To register for the opportunity to take part, please contact Rhondda Fach Sports Centre on 01443 756242
“Children learnt vital life-saving skills, for which they were awarded certificates and we hope this will encourage participation in regular Rookie lifeguard schemes held in pools across Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
To find out more about which schemes are currently available, please contact your local swimming pool.
