Mountain Ash Highway Investment

December 3, 2008

A major £95,000 environmental enhancement investment programme is about to begin in Mountain Ash.

The works consist of environmental enhancements to Bruce Street, Knight Street, Chancery Lane and to the Town Bridge. The scheme will include resurfacing of sections of footways and carriageways including the Town Bridge which is the strategic gateway to the town.

Works to the Town Bridge which links Oxford Street and Cardiff Road over the railway line, river and flood channels will result in some Sundays closure of the bridge in early 2009, but users will be informed well in advance of the works being carried out.

During the coming weeks works will commence on the Town Bridge in nearby Bruce Street, followed by the refurbishment of the road and footway on Knight Street.

The Heads of the Valley Initiative funded scheme follows on from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s cash injection of £2.1 million during 2007/8 to improve major highways in the county borough.

An additional £1million has also been jointly invested by the Council and the Welsh Assembly Government into reconstructing the A4119 at Coedely.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care Cllr Andrew Morgan said: “Clearly the environmental improvement works will continue to enhance Mountain Ash and follows on from the Commercial Street and Guto Square works.”
