Tutors pick up performance tips
January 18, 2009
Music tutors have picked up tips on how to improve their own performances – in the workplace – at a course held at Porth Plaza, Porth.
Designed to raise standards of tutoring and promote good practice, the five-week course was attended by talented young tutors from across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and Merthy Tydfil.
Among those who took part from Rhondda Cynon Taf were Alex Rees, who teaches songwriting and recording; Emma Hopkins (singing and drama), Benjamin Franks (piano and guitar), Jared Huish (Rock and Pop music), Justin Preece (songwriting and all aspects of Rock and Pop) and Chris Matthews (dj skills).
The course, which included practical training and lesson planning, was delivered by Aberdare-based AX Music and funded by members of the South Wales New Music Forum, including SONIG Youth Music Industry, part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services and YOMAZ – the Youth Music Action Zone.
Tanya Walker-Brown, SONIG co-ordinator, Rhondda Cynon Taf, said: “The course offered new learning opportunities for all of them in their chosen pathways in the creative industries. We are hoping to employ many of the tutors in future.”
