Afghanistan War Heroes face Aberdare RFC

July 22, 2009

A group of servicemen who have just returned from a tour of Afghanistan will take on Aberdare RFC next week in a charity rugby match.

The event at Ynys Sports Centre, Aberdare, on July 29, is being supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Robert Smith and will raise funds for one of his chosen charities, Help for Heroes.

As many residents as possible are invited to attend the event in order to enjoy the sport, but also to show their support and respect for the servicemen and women who fight for our country.

Aberdare RFC was approached by one of its former players, Darren Thomas, who is now in the 1st Dragoon Guards (Welsh Cavalry) and plays for their rugby team.

He was keen to hold a rugby match and it was agreed the event should be organised as a fundraiser.

Entrance is free to all, but there will be programmes for sale and collections to raise money for Help for Heroes. The event opens at 7pm for a 7.15pm kick off.
